Strategies for the prevention of diabetic foot complications to avoid amputation in patients of the Delfina Torres de Concha Hospital, September 2017 to August 2018.
Abstract
Diabetic foot is one of the most feared chronic complications. Neuropathy, peripheral arterial disease, and in some cases, infection are implicated in its pathophysiology. If this condition is not prevented or treated in a timely manner, it can lead to total or partial amputation of the foot. Multidisciplinary care is of the utmost importance, it does not mean that the patient goes to a consultation, emergencies or enters a service, and then, a series of interconsultations are carried out, which most of the time attend professionals who are not integrated in the unit, nor show interest in this pathology. Coordinated care among professionals must adhere to current criteria based on scientific evidence.
