Social impact of disability in women.
Abstract
Women with disabilities have been "invisible" both in gender studies and in research on disability, due to the double discrimination suffered by women and the disabled, which deprives them of the exercise of their rights such as full social participation and achievement. of essential life goals. A study was conducted with 165 women from the State of Mexico, with an average age of 45 years, 43% of them living with a relative, presenting 65% physical disability. The study revealed the existential and social problems that influence the decrease of their motivation and autonomy, as well as the access to the appropriate housing conditions for their disability situation which entails repercussions on health aspects.
