Abstract

The purpose of the work is to make the philosophical dimensions explicit by choosing to conduct qualitative research. The object of study is the meanings that teachers build on the process of teacher performance evaluation. The first intention is to recognize the interpretative and theoretical diversity that shapes the content of that object of study and the second is to recognize that a positioning influences the direction of an investigation. The dimensions that guide qualitative research are ontological, epistemological, axiological, rhetorical and methodological; the qualitative researcher chooses a position before each of them and assumes the practical implications of design and elaboration in the investigation.
