Abstract

Caries is a chronic multifactorial disease that affects a large part of the population and has an incidence in children at school due to factors such as poor oral hygiene habits, a diet high in sugars, and socio-economic and cultural factors. Faced with this reality, most countries have adopted strategies and care models that contribute to improving oral health. One of these is water fluoridation and topical applications of fluoride that are more effective in reducing cavities. The objective was to determine the importance of fluoride in the prevention and reduction of the rate of caries at school, through a compilation of literature confirming the effectiveness of treatment.
