Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the nutritional status of schoolchildren from 8 to 11 years of age through the Body Mass Index (BMI) of two public institutions in the urban area of the city of Milagro, Ecuador. This is a cross-sectional investigation with a sample of 252 participants. The questionnaire on consumption, habits and feeding practices for third, fourth and fifth grade schoolchildren was applied. It was determined that about a quarter of the population studied is overweight and more than 28% are obese with a predominance in men, which constitutes a public health problem
