Social determination in hypothyroidism: Protective and destructive factors.
Abstract
The prevalence of hypothyroidism in relation to the effect of goitrogenic foods on iodine levels and thyroid status is explained. According to World Health Organization values of the total prevalence of goiter (PTB), the cases were deficient in iodine replaced by other halogens. There was a positive association between obesity levels and serum TSH (r = 0.008, p <0.01). Serum TSH levels, ultrasound, and palpable goitre were associated with dietary goitrogens such as blue fish and cassava, among the cases. The consumption of goitrogens in the diet was high among euthyroid and hypothyroid subjects living in Manta.
