Abstract

Currently, several studies reveal that trafficking in persons represents a growing international phenomenon. It has been quantified as one of the most lucrative illegal activities, after drug and arms trafficking. There are different laws in force on the subject and organizations such as the UN have rules to follow to mitigate this crime. However, despite the current legal framework in countries like Ecuador, the crime of trafficking in persons has not been eradicated. This research aims to reflect on the crime of trafficking in persons from its current perspective in Ecuador. The main current laws are presented and an analysis of the main drawbacks on current regulations is made.
