Maternal resilience: recovering a history of resistance to the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Abstract
This work presents a mother with a child diagnosed with ASD, following a qualitative single case methodological design. The data were collected through the semi-structured in-depth interview technique, whose content was analyzed and organized into seven categories that expose the experience and highlight the resources developed by the mother as determining factors of resilience. The results ensure that life and family experiences around ASD have been a driving force to move forward. Findings from other previous studies are also shared that highlight family work that favors the resilient characteristics of the mother and that could permeate the whole family.
