Social and economic dependency of the elderly resident of Metepec municipality, State of Mexico.

Abstract

One of the most important problems in the elderly stage is the loss of functional capacities, and this condition can lead to various economic and social implications. A study was conducted with 300 older adults, the majority of whom were women with an average age of 71 years. It is concluded that the conditions of social dependence in the interviewees are 61%, referring that they require the care of some person, and with respect to economic dependence, 79% of the respondents report having some type of monthly income of more than $ 1,000 MNX, of which 62% are received by government support and 15% by some type of pension.
