Abstract

The curve number (CN) is a method for calculating the effective precipitation produced by a storm in a given area. The objective of this research work is to determine the Curve Number (CN) of the hydrographic basin of the Portoviejo river to evaluate and know its runoff potential. To obtain the morphometric parameters of the basin and the soil hydrological groups (HSG), the ArcGIS software and the HEC-GeoHMS tool were used. The results indicated that the predominant curve numbers for normal humidity conditions (AMC II) are 76, 85 and 82. The hydrological group of the soil with the highest presence in the basin is type D, followed by type B and C.
