The process of building autonomy in the Mexican university.
Abstract
Through a documentary investigation, the process of building autonomy in the Mexican public university was analyzed. It should be noted that autonomy was not conferred upon it from its foundation but achieved after a series of efforts by the university community, carried out during most of the 20th century. Both the actors and the key events that influenced the formation of university autonomy are indicated, as well as the progressiveness with which it was granted by the government. After the constitutional recognition of autonomy around 1980, the university has used its self-management in tasks such as the search for modernizing processes, efficiency in the use of resources and the improvement of performance standards.
