Abstract

Procrastination has been present in people's lives as a practice that affects individual performance to achieve institutional objectives, and currently, it is more visible in the academic context; however, the instantaneity driven by the technologies affected the concepts based on the logic of post-industrial time. The objective of this research was to understand how the use of virtual social networks, and in particular, of Facebook, is related to the forms of academic procrastination in university students. A qualitative, phenomenological investigation was carried out with the participation of 33 students. Three forms of academic procrastination were identified. Their differences are in the purpose of procrastination, the time-space separation with other activities, and the duration and its effects.
