This article proposes the identification of the key components to configure this model and the characteristics proposed by various authors for its effective implementation, starting from its main characteristics, critical variables and key actors; highlighting the role that interactivity and learning communities have in learning achievement. The research is of a descriptive documentary type through the revision of texts that contain the variables: characteristics of distance education, learning communities, interactivity and key actors. It is concluded that this proposal can provide a reference to the managers of educational institutions to consider the key elements when deciding to integrate a distance education proposal.
