Abstract

The objective of this paper is to analyze the impact of macroeconomic determinants on the variation of the poverty rate in Ecuador during 2002-2020, by estimating an Ordinary Least Squares econometric model; therefore, information was collected from the official databases of the World Bank and ECLAC. Having as results that the unemployment rate, income inequality, inflation and the Gross Domestic Product have a direct relationship with the poverty rate; that is, an increase in these variables causes an increase in poverty; however, the unemployment rate has a greater impact in relation to the other variables.
