Abstract

Improving the quality of life in the elderly is one of the aspects to which health professionals must pay systematic attention. The present work pays attention to the factors that cause burning mouth syndrome, which is a well-known entity, which is accompanied by a burning and itching sensation in the oral mucosa without clinical signs and usually occurs in middle-aged or elderly women. Although it has been studied, its etiology is still unknown and it is believed to be multifactorial, so there is no effective treatment. The importance of disseminating this issue among the possibly affected to work on its prevention is highlighted.
