Complications of the diabetic patient with COVID-19.

Abstract

The complications of diabetic patients at the Manta General Hospital are analyzed in the period March 2020 - March 2021. It was a quantitative, descriptive, and retrospective study. The results indicated that 62.7% of diabetic patients treated for COVID-19 correspond to men with a dominant age range between 61-70 years with 33.5%; 52.2% of diabetics had moderate lung involvement and 33.4% severe; Acute Respiratory Insufficiency Syndrome was present in 58.2% and 66.1% had severe hypoxemia as a complication; 32.3% of diabetics were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and of the total admitted, 86.5% died. It is concluded that most of the patients presented moderate to severe complications during the Sars-CoV2 infection with a high mortality in the ICU.
