Abstract

The objective of this research is to assess the effects presented by the oral cavity of people with cheilophagia and to find a method to eradicate this habit. Information was collected through a survey applied to 40 UNIANDES students in the city of Santo Domingo, with an average age between 17 and 30 years. Most of the people surveyed are unaware of the term cheilophagia and that it is considered a nervous tic. The results obtained in these surveys show that most people have constant stress in their lives and each one manages that stress in different ways, with biting of the lips being the second symptom when presenting anxiety, causing deterioration of the oral cavity.
