Local and regional determinants of reporting family violence in Mexico.
Abstract
This work seeks to estimate the strength of the link between the employment situation of couples and the rate of complaints of family violence, and to account for how this effect changes in the territory. To meet these objectives, we apply OLS, 2SLS, and MGWR models to INEGI and SESNSP data. The results show that when the rate of couples where the woman works increases, the complaint increases; the bandwidth of this variable is small, which indicates that its effect responds to local features that must be addressed at the municipal level. The rate of complaints in neighboring municipalities, the intervention of the police, and the cases of family violence that reach the courts, also have important effects.
