Abstract
The skills required by professionals who are linked to urban development programs of coastal cities are determined, so that they are able to find the causes that cause their vulnerability to the danger of natural disasters caused by hurricanes and penetrations of the sea and consider, with a systemic approach and project, investments in construction and preparation of the population, thus facilitating social resilience. The work is the result of a documentary investigation of the authors on the formation of competences of students of the Architecture and Civil Engineering careers on the subject of sustainable urban development of coastal cities and the study of cases of projects considered failed or unsustainable in cities of the Caribbean coastal.
