Complications in patients with COVID-19 treated at the Manta General Hospital of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute.

Abstract

The objective of the work is to determine the most frequent complications in patients with COVID-19 admitted to the IESS Manta General Hospital. The study was based on an exhaustive review of the literature and observational research, obtaining as results that the most frequent complications in patients with invasive mechanical ventilation were: nosocomial pneumonia with 24.18% and barotrauma with 7.69%; Of the admitted patients, 82% required supplemental oxygen, 9% required mechanical ventilation, and 8% did not require oxygen. Among the associated comorbidities were diabetes 29%, renal failure 20%, arterial hypertension 39%, and obesity 11%. The most frequent complications observed in patients with COVID-19 were related to the presence of more than one risk factor.
