Abstract

The objective of the present investigation is to know the positive or negative socioeconomic aspects, and their determination as a product of the shrimp activity in the Puerto Jelí parish of the Santa Rosa canton. The applied methodology responds to a descriptive and cross-sectional investigation, with the application of a survey to a sample of 88 people related to the shrimp activity and who live in Puerto Jelí. The results of the research show that the impacts of aquaculture are not only related to the biophysical environment but extend through society. Social impacts vary considerably, depending on how aquaculture is developed and policies, if any, guide its development.
