Sexual risk behaviors for unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections in Mexican university students.

Abstract

The objective of the study was to determine the predominant sexual risk behaviors related to unwanted pregnancy and transmission of sexually transmitted infections in adolescents and young adults. A cross-sectional study was carried out. 187 undergraduate nursing students with an average age of 20.86 years participated. The information was obtained through an anonymous questionnaire-type instrument. University students reveal risky sexual behaviors that can affect their health and life project. 67.9% of the participants started sexual activities before they were 21 years old, 43.9% turn to friends or colleagues when they want to know about sexual and reproductive health. 65.5% of students do not use any contraceptive method during sexual intercourse. 37.0% have had 3 or more sexual partners.
