Cognitive intervention through video games in older adults with Alzheimer's: Case study.
Abstract
The World Health Organization defines Alzheimer's disease as a neurodegenerative disease characterized by a progressive deterioration of memory and cognitive function, requiring cognitive intervention as part of non-pharmacological treatment. The objective was to evaluate the impact of cognitive stimulation based on the use of video games in an older adult with early stage Alzheimer's disease. MoCA was used because of its high diagnostic accuracy for Alzheimer's disease. The initial score obtained was 7 points and at the end of the therapeutic plan it was 17 points, reflecting greater mastery in cognitive areas such as memory, visuospatial ability and attention. In conclusion, it is possible that interventions with video games help to maintain cognitive functions.
