Impact of a binational summer program to inspire future female scientists.
Abstract
Careers related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are required to lead and promote the technological, economic and social progress of countries; however, the low number of young people enrolled in these areas is a great challenge at the international level and even more so when it comes to women and girls, who continue to be very underrepresented in these fields. According to data from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), less than 30% of researchers worldwide are women. This paper presents the experience of young college students during their participation in a binational scientific research summer program.
