Application of positron emission tomography in the early identification of relapse in patients with prostate cancer.
Abstract
Prostate cancer is a disease that represents a public health challenge worldwide. Despite the advances made in the diagnosis and treatment of this disease, its multifactorial origin has limited the effectiveness of primary prevention measures and the reduction of recurrence, which implies a considerable social, personal and economic impact. The objective of this research is to analyze the use of positron emission tomography (PET) as a tool for early detection of recurrence in prostate cancer. It could be concluded that more research and clinical studies are required to validate its efficacy and establish standardized protocols for its implementation in clinical practice.
