Effect of the administration of corticosteroids in the reduction of neonatal morbidity and mortality in pregnant women with a gestation between weeks 34.0 and 38.6.
Abstract
The objective of this study is to demonstrate that the use of corticosteroids is a viable option in pregnant women exceeding 34 weeks of gestation. To achieve this objective, an exhaustive bibliographic review was carried out that included a search in various scientific databases and the consultation of clinical guidelines from different countries recognized in the field of obstetrics. The results revealed that most of the studies and clinical guidelines consulted support the use of corticosteroids in pregnant patients over 34 weeks. Despite this, it is concluded that, due to the potential risk of long-term complications in neonates, it is necessary conduct further research in this area to strengthen the existing evidence.
