The preservation of the right to life in situations of riot in the Santo Domingo prison.
Abstract
The riots at the Bellavista prison in Santo Domingo, often triggered by prison overcrowding, have exacerbated the violation of the right to life and other constitutional guarantees. This qualitative study with a descriptive approach used theoretical methods, such as historical-logical and analytical-synthetic, as well as empirical methods, such as documentary analysis and interviews with experts in criminal and constitutional law from the Santo Domingo canton. It was concluded that riots arise due to ineffectiveness in prison management and the influence of organized gangs, claiming the lives of inmates for minor crimes, which represents a setback in the rights of people deprived of liberty.
