Abstract

This research aims to analyze pedestrian behavior and the use of public space in commercial areas of the city of Babahoyo, Los Ríos province, focusing on the obstruction of sidewalks and its underlying reasons. A field study was conducted that included observations, pedestrian counts, and interviews with pedestrians. The results revealed that sidewalk obstructions were the main reason pedestrians chose to walk on the road. As solutions, it is suggested to address these obstacl es and improve pedestrian infrastructure to ensure the safety of pedestrians and promote appropriate use of public space in Babahoyo.
