Abstract

Bitcoin, a cryptocurrency independent of the traditional financial system, has a variable legal status and regulation depending on the country. In some places, it is considered legal currency and is used in transactions, while in others it is prohibited. Its value in the markets is highly volatile. Legal aspects such as user protection, prevention of illicit activities and taxation are relevant, along with the need for sound regulations. The purpose of the research is to examine in detail the use of bitcoin, including its origin and definitions, its global influence and legality, as well as actions to take in cases of fraud, taking into account that its purchase and sale are allowed, although not always for goods and services.
