Abstract

An important question is what public educational institutions are going these days, in their role as developers of technologies that respond to the needs of society. This research shows the technological development trends of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), through the analysis of the technological fields in which it patents, as well as, understanding this dynamic, the generation of knowledge that feeds back the technological development of this entity, from 2014 to 2017. Likewise, a comparison with another institution is integrated. The results show that, in the IPN, patenting activity particularly stands out in technological fields linked to the pharmaceutical area, such as information technologies (ICT).
