Comparison of euthanasia in humans and urban wildlife animals: an analysis of rights and practices.
Abstract
The study focuses on examining the right to self-determination in terminal illness situations, highlighting its connection with the principle of human dignity rooted in Ecuadorian legislation. When people face unsustainable physical and emotional suffering due to terminal illnesses, suicide can be considered as an option to seek a death with dignity. Medical professionals often encounter patients who are unable to make informed decisions about their health care, highlighting the importance of assessing the competence of these patients in terms of their ability to make decisions related to their health, including understanding, freedom, and voluntariness.
