Abstract

We analyze the lyrical content of the most listened to songs in Mexico between 2015 and 2021 on the Spotify platform. The text relates said content to topics such as gender violence, social movements, power, sexuality, among others. The qualitative method was used, and the categories proposed by Bretthauer, Zimmerman and Banning (2007) were adapted for the analysis. The study of the twenty songs (ten for each year) shows that 85% (17 songs) have content related to gender violence. The results indicate an increase in the content of gender violence despite the increase in social movements in favor of women. This work allows us to demonstrate discourses and practices in relation to gender violence.
