Abstract

The present study investigates the relationship between intelligence quotient (IQ) and academic performance in freshmen engineering students. In this research, the Terman-Merril Intelligence Questionnaire was applied to six generational cohorts (2021-2023), where the approval, failure and dropout rates were analyzed based on the IQ ranges: high (greater than 110), medium ( 90 to 110) and low (less than 89), concluding that there is a correlation between IQ and academic performance, showing that students with high IQ have greater achievement, compared to those with medium and low; however, variables that could influence academic performance such as motivation, effort, socioeconomic and social context were not analyzed
