Abstract

This study proposes to examine in detail the problem of overcrowding in Latin American prisons. Through a comparative approach, various aspects are analyzed, such as prison policies, judicial systems, and socioeconomic conditions, in order to identify patterns and significant differences in overcrowding rates among the countries of the region. The study seeks not only to quantify the phenomenon, but also to understand the underlying complexities that contribute to the problem. By adopting a comparative approach, it aims to offer a comprehensive view of the causes and consequences of prison overcrowding in the Latin American context, thus providing valuable information for the formulation of effective public policies and strategies aimed at addressing this problem in a more accurate and equitable manner.
