Abstract

This research has conducted an exhaustive study on the implications of tougher penalties as a strategy against crime in Ecuador. It questions whether this measure is truly effective against organized crime or whether, on the contrary, it could violate the fundamental rights of prisoners. The main objective of the article is to understand how the most severe penalties impact Ecuadorian society, evaluating their preventive capacity and their effectiveness in reducing different types of crimes. By integrating multidisciplinary approaches, including sociology, the aim is to enrich academic discourse and promote more robust and equitable public security policies for all citizens of Ecuador.
