Abstract

The project investigates the history of Ecuador, addressing periods of political instability and authoritarianism up to the 21st century, focusing on the excessive use of state force and its effects on human rights and social cohesion. The prohibition of torture and inhuman treatment at the national and international level is analyzed, with an emphasis on the state's responsibility to prevent and punish these abuses. The objectives include identifying cases of misuse of force, assessing their impacts, and proposing improvements in investigation procedures. The methodological approach integrates historical and descriptive analysis supported by documentary sources. The need to respect human rights in police operations to strengthen a just and democratic society is highlighted.
