Abstract

Higher education institutions are key to social inclusion through community outreach programs. This research sought to promote the inclusion of older adults at the La Merced Center, Ambato, Ecuador, through actions of the Universidad Regional Autónoma de Los Andes. Theoretical and empirical research methods were used and symptoms of stress and lack of knowledge about alternative therapies among older adults were identified, which limited their social integration. A guide of therapies such as meditation, yoga and music therapy were designed and implemented, which significantly reduced stress and improved social participation. It was concluded that these multidisciplinary approaches are effective in promoting the social inclusion of older adults.
