Experiences of epistemic violence faced by female scientists in the university context.
Abstract
The objective of this work was to analyze the discourses of female researchers who have faced gender-based epistemic violence in their work environments. In this qualitative study, in-depth interviews were conducted with seven participants. It was found that female researchers mainly face mockery and invisibility, which intersect with other axes of subordination, such as race and age. While it has been considered that men are the primary perpetrators of these practices towards their female academic peers, the findings reveal that such behaviors also occur among women, although to a lesser extent. It is essential to ensure more spaces free from prejudice and injustice, allowing women to develop with dignity.
