Social inequality and violence: how does it appear in an academic sphere?
Abstract
Social inequality as cultural domination highlights the role of values, beliefs, and emotions in social behavior. In the academic field, this underlines the importance of merit, equal opportunities, and scientific knowledge over values such as loyalty and exchange of favors; however, domination includes a form of violence that manifests itself in the relationship between the arbitrariness of academic authority and teachers, with the aim of invalidating their qualities as researchers, increasing the risk of being sanctioned. This dynamic reveals tensions between fair evaluation and the use of power; the above is based on the essence of this research.
