Abstract

This research analyzed kidnapping for ransom in Babahoyo, focusing on its origins, legal and social configuration, and causes of proliferation. The impact on victims, their families and the community was examined, showing how this crime generates fear, an xiety and insecurity, altering the social fabric and perpetuating a cycle of uncertainty. The study sought to design a security mechanism to reduce cases of kidnapping for ransom, using a mixed descriptive and explanatory methodological approach. The findi ngs show the ineffectiveness of the authorities and the urgent need for more effective security strategies that address both the visible manifestations of the crime and its socioeconomic and cultural roots.
