Abstract

The present work examines the impact of the lack of knowledge about the indigenous justice system of the Awa people on the resolution of jurisdictional conflicts in Ecuador. Using a mixed-method approach, surveys and interviews were conducted with members of the Awa community, opinion leaders, and key actors in the judicial system. The study concludes that more effective coordination mechanisms need to be implemented between indigenous and ordinary justice, as well as promoting greater dissemination of the rights recognized for indigenous peoples. Finally, it proposes the adoption of measures that harmonize ancestral practices with human rights principles, ensuring both the protection of indigenous culture and respect for international standards.
