Decriminalization of abortion due to rape: implementation and challenges.
Abstract
This article analyzes the implementation of the decriminalization of abortion in cases of rape in Ecuador, a significant advancement in reproductive rights. Despite legislative achievements, multiple challenges persist in the effective access to these services due to the lack of training for healthcare personnel, social stigma, and legal barriers. A mixed-methods approach was used, which included in-depth interviews with healthcare professionals, focus groups with affected women, and a documentary analysis of reports and statistics from the Ministry of Public Health. The results highlight the need for comprehensive strategies to improve access and ensure dignified treatment for women, thereby promoting their autonomy and well-being.
