Teacher work overload: impact on health and professional performance.
Abstract
This study analyses the prevalence of burnout and its relationship with work-related stressors, considering manifestations in the dimensions of emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation and personal achievement. A quantitative approach was used through surveys, using the Maslach questionnaire as the main tool. The results show that emotional exhaustion has been the most common manifestation among teachers. Depersonalisation has also been a relevant factor, reflecting emotional detachment and low perception of personal achievement. It has been shown that burnout has considerably affected the well-being and quality of teaching of teachers. The need to implement actions, collaborative projects, research and programmes that reduce the impact of burnout syndrome is raised.
