Violation of the constitutional rights of older adults in Ecuador.
Abstract
The study aimed to analyze the current situation of older adults at risk in Ecuador based on their constitutional rights. A mixed research design was used with a purposive sample of 89 older adults. The results revealed that a high proportion of the sample expressed dissatisfaction with the care received, evidencing a lack of resources and trained personnel in the institutions. A high level of mistreatment was identified, especially among those who reside with relatives. The research suggested the urgent need for public policies that guarantee both access and quality of services, as well as awareness programs on the rights of older adults. It was concluded that, despite existing legislation, the protection of the rights of this vulnerable group was not being effectively fulfilled, which requires a more forceful state intervention.
