Community participation as a catalyst for the development of prosocial skills in university students.
Abstract
This study analyzes the impact of community participation on the development of prosocial skills in university students. A qualitative approach was used with 14 participants from various undergraduate and graduate programs, who participated in social service and volunteer projects. The findings indicate that these experiences strengthen empathy, social commitment, and leadership skills; however, a lack of institutionalization in universities is observed, which limits their impact. It is concluded that integrating these activities into the educational model would enhance their transformative effect on students and the community.
