Abstract

This research focused on evaluating overcrowding at the Bellavista Deprivation of Liberty Center, in Santo Domingo, during the year 2023, in relation to the right to a dignified life of persons deprived of liberty. With a mixed qualitative-quantitative approach and descriptive scope, analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive methods were used, as well as documentary analysis and interviews. The results revealed that overcrowding, exceeding the capacity of the center, constitutes the main problem, violating international treaties and constitutional rights; in addition, the lack of knowledge of these rights by inmates was confirmed, aggravating the violation of fundamental guarantees established in the Constitution.
