Abstract

The problem of illegal mining in the Ecuadorian Amazon is something that seriously affects biodiversity and the rights of indigenous communities, driven by the demand for precious minerals. This problem causes the loss of species, contamination of rivers and soils with mercury, and violates human rights, damaging the social and economic fabric. Although Ecuador has regulations to regulate this activity, its application is limited by institutional problems. A comparative analysis with Colombia and Peru reveals that improving the effectiveness of Ecuadorian regulations requires strengthening institutional capacity, implementing comprehensive control policies and promoting collaboration with local communities. This work focuses on this problem.
