Abstract

In Ecuador, the debate on euthanasia, especially in cases of catastrophic diseases, has generated ethical and human controversies. This analysis employs the historical-logical method to explore the origin of the term “euthanasia” and its evolution from ancient Greece to current debates. The recent legalization of euthanasia in Ecuador marks a milestone in medicine and individual rights, highlighting the need for an ethical and safe process that protects vulnerable patients. The research addresses the ethical and legal aspects of euthanasia, using interviews, documentary analysis and comparison with other legislations. It highlights the need for a clear legal framework that balances medical and legal aspects in the Ecuadorian context.
