The evolution and challenges of beach microdestinations for tourism in the State of Nayarit, Mexico.
Abstract
This research analyzes the origin and main problems of four micro-beach tourist destinations on the Mexican Pacific, located north of the Puerto Vallarta development hub. The communities of Los Ayala, Chacala, Lo de Marcos, and San Francisco have been socially and economically impacted. A considerable disproportionate relationship between the number of residents and visitors is also noted, leading to invasion, gentrification, inadequate basic public services, and in some cases, symbolic violence. This qualitative research is based on testimonies from residents of each community, observation of touristification processes, and an academic review of available official information on these destinations.
