Analysis of legal effectiveness in the environmental protection of the lagoons of southern Tamaulipas.
Abstract
The metropolitan area of Tampico, Madero and Altamira, Tamaulipas, is a region rich in bodies of water, but affected by pollution, environmental deterioration and shortages of drinking water. This situation directly damages aquatic ecosystems, compromising biodiversity and the health of the inhabitants; therefore, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness of legal provisions for the protection of the human right to a healthy environment, as well as evaluating compliance with and application of national and international standards. The results show that a comprehensive approach linking legal provisions with education, public policy, and community participation is required to achieve substantive and sustainable environmental protection.
